The Wedding season is now in full swing & the past several months have been very hectic for me with 2 to 3 weddings every week from May its been mad, so this the first post i have written since the end of may, with all my time taken up with weddings ,editing,enquiry's and new bookings for the rest of this year and well into 2015 and 2016

A new PC from chilblast ,an OC lite which was desperately need since my hp, although being a good machine and only 18 months old was starting to struggle with all the DNG's put into it.The OC lite is a superb PC , i-7 overclocked to 4 something what ever,16gb ram,water cooling etc etc, now i could have bought a shiny new I - Mac for looks but for practicability and with the fact that all my software is windows based i really didn't see the point in buying it all again,anyway its fast, i can run lightroom 5 & photo shop & all my NIK software all at the same time and at super fast speed which has really sped up my processing time,especially when editing 3 weddings in one week which amounts to approx 5000 images.To top it off a new camera NIKON D4, now i know what all the togs out there are going to say, " why on earth did you get a D4 " and not a D800, well firstly file size, we all know how big the file sizes are on the 800 and secondly comfort, me being built like a gorilla has massive hands and the D4 fit's perfectly into my un-nimble gorilla mitts,apart from the high ISO and also apart from the fact that the hot shoe on both my D700'S failed and had to be repaired by fixation at a cost of £170.00 each, i thought it was about time for a new camera and push the 700's into backup.Enough said a few images from recent weddings                                Richard kinsley photography

After the glorious weather of the last few months & not one Saturday with any rain, i was about to come back down to UK weather with a big bump.

Last Saturday the 24th may I photographed the wedding of peter & Katie in Harrow Weald. 

The weather looked very iffy leading up to the day and driving to Katie's mum's house for the bridal shoot i could see very dark, ominous clouds building up, not a good, foreboding of the hours to come. Bridal shots done with Katie & her 3 children, to the church to meet up with peter and get the guests and family shots before the service started, nice warm day & sunshine & i thought ( prematurely ) the weather was going to get better & turn into a spring sunshiny day, How wrong could i be, Bride arrives with dad in his Morris minor, service done, processional, & as the couple get to the entrance, The heavens opened up & didn't stop for over 30 minutes.Confetti & group shots missed.

We had arranged to do couple shots at Eastcote park near Pinner & then on to the venue, " Tudor lodge " just around the corner.

As we arrived at Eastcote park a really nice 15th century Tudor House & gardens, the rain was hammering it down so decided to find a spot under a tree to get some nice romantic snogging shots, weird weather in this spot the foliage of the trees protected the couple from the rain yet the background was blazing sunshine ( 4 seasons in one day ).

I had intended to do as much off camera flash as i could but in order to maximise the use of what sunshine there was it was a rogue flash bender on camera, but as the rain stopped and the sun came out so did the pocket wizards and a couple of Nikon Sb-910's.The heart shape umbrella shot was Katie's idea, very simple a Sb-910 mounted on a stand with a rogue flash bender behind Peter & Katie, a couple of test shots and nailed!. I loved this picture and will be doing it in future weddings,corny to some lovely to others,each to their own.Wedding photographer Essex

Who do you choose to take the pictures of your wedding day, the cheapest, the most expensive or somewhere in between.Price alone can not determine how good or how poor an image is, some photographers realize that in order to be a good photographer you have to be a good business man and offer value for money, whereas other photographers believe photography is more important than value for money.

Wedding photography is a game of two half's, half knowledge and half equipment, your photographer must have the experience and knowledge on how to handle different lighting environments which can change in the blink of an eye, is there enough light?,  is the light too strong or too weak,  do i need to add flash, ?, how much flash, what aperture, what shutter speed,?, the list goes on and on and all these thoughts that create that picture of your wedding day have to be processed and put into practice constantly throughout the day. So yes, anyone can buy the latest all singing all dancing dslr camera and take a picture, but if they don't have the working knowledge on how to apply that knowledge to a camera they might as well stick to their grainy mobile phone.
 
The other half of two half's is equipment a wedding photographer will invest thousands of pounds into his/her equipment where as an amateur wedding photographer will most likely have an entry or  mid level dslr with standard kit lens which may only cost a few hundred pounds and the ability to take crisp, clean images on an overcast summers day may look nice in program or semi auto modes then try to take a picture in a 11th century Norman church where there is no natural light and only old tungsten light giving off an orange haze and the clergy have said flash is not allowed. This is where a professional quality dslr and fast 2.8 lens can work in almost non existent light and produce grainless images with no flash and the knowledge to apply manual settings just by looking at available light will come into their own.

So yes do your research, look for consistency in the pictures you are vetting , look at church wedding photo's , look for shadow and light, but above all like the picture....no like no buy.

An English country Wedding

There is nothing like a Traditional country village wedding, A Norman stone built church, kept grounds and warm sunny days just like the quintessential lazy British summer, which in an idyllic world we all dream of for our perfect wedding day. Although this wedding took place on the 11th April 2014 it seemed like the weather was in the middle of august.

Unlike a venue where the wedding service tends to be relaxed a traditional church tends to have stricter rules regarding the use of  photography & as was the case with this church filming of the actual service was limited to just one or two shots from a distance, ( even if the guests were flashing away with their  I - phones & I - pads ). Outcomes the Nikon 70-200 2.8 vr2 , max wide open and ISO 2500 & no flash.The good thing was there was plenty of natural light so not a problem in the end with the quality of the images, but even so it still gets my goat when us official photographers have to obey the rules, yet the guests get away with it.

And then all group shots out the way, time to relax with Nick & Jo to get some nice directed shots of the couple together, now that's directed not posed so the eyes looking that way, the movement of a hand here, direction of light and maybe a Little fill flash.

Honeymoon here we come...........

The lion restaurant, Boreham, Essex

The lion Inn,Boreham near Chelmsford in Essex was the setting for this post wedding party for Scott and Charlotte Leonard whom had just the previous week got married in Las Vegas, The Lion Inn is a massively busy Gastropub restaurant set just outside the village of Boreham, seating for 160 covers,big comfortable chairs, open plan dinning and everything you would expect from an a la carte restaurant at the fraction of the price.Don't get me wrong this isn't a critics review of this establishment more of an observation of where's good to eat and good value bang for your buck.Enough said, back to work, hired by Charlotte and Scott to photograph their post wedding dinner, space was limited but managed to set up two Nikon Sb-910 in each corner of the restaurant bouncing off a white ceiling, pocket wizards and a Nikon D700 with a 70-200 vr2 and then outside for some posed couple and family shots.The Bride was stunning in her designer wedding dress and the Groom looked very much the part of the proud husband and even though customers were milling about constantly we managed to get some very striking shots.

Another beautiful day, what is happening to the weather in this country,three weddings in march all with lovely warm sunny days and the latest wedding at Prested Hall near Colchester on the 28th march was of no exception. The day started a bit murky and I thought, yep, here we go typical British march weather, but no within a couple of hours glorious warm sunshine.

The wedding of Ricky & Lizzie, My third wedding this month in an excellent venue, laid out grounds and a lovely little pond for romantic shots all finished off with a great set of off camera flash shots of the couple on their wedding day...what more can you ask for.
